Ms. Anoma Wijesuriya - Proprietress / MD
As the only child out of 6 of Mr. & Mrs.
Wijesuriya who required spectacles, Anoma began the use of
spectacles whilst schooling at Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda.
It was Mr Wijesuriya’s ingenious idea that optometry
would be an ideal profession for Anoma.
Soon
after finishing her secondary education, Anoma joined her
brothers in the United Kingdom to pursue her higher
studies in Optometry, qualifying as an Optometrist with an
Honours Fellowship of the British Dispensing Opticians and
the Worshipful Company of Spectacle makers, U.K.
Immediately afterwards, she worked in London for some
years before returning home to Sri Lanka.
On
her return, she joined William Pedris Opticians, who were
the pioneers in the field of optometry in Sri Lanka and
the only company who had a few qualified optometrists at
the time. After gathering experience for a few years, with
encouragement and the guidance of her father and brothers,
Anoma embarked on the journey to start up a business of
her own.
Anoma took the first steps of building
Anoma Opticians, on the 28th day of March 1984 at No.150,
Hewawaitharana Building, Highlevel Road, Nugegoda with
just one staff member. After a few years establishing
Anoma Opticians, the company moved to a new location in
February of 1990 to 128-Amara Nagaraya, Highlevel Road,
Nugegoda to accommodate servicing an ever increasing
customer base. As the only outlet, the company remains at
the same location to date, while continually expanding its
space at the same premises.
After nearly three
decades since the inception of Anoma Opticians, we are
proud to be serving many generations whilst continually
striving to improve our services. As "the Professionals
who care for your eyes", we look forward to continuing our
services for generations to come.
